"Glastonbury is one of the biggest gigs that a band can play in their entire career, so we were incredibly nervous..."

Tim referiu: "Every childhood should be a time for optimism and innocence. In many places it is instead a time of violent chaos, deprivation and fear. War Child is doing everything it can to change that, and we are proud to give them our sincere support".Tom acrescentou: "2005 is the year we can all make a real difference to millions of people. 30,000 children die needlessly due to poverty every day.

As a band we're wearing the Make Poverty History wristband and we're asking everyone to join up". (www.oxfam.org.uk)

Tom: "I didn't realise there were quite so many people there."

A 9 de Setembro de 2005, Keane gravam a versão de Elthon John "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" para o album War Child's 'Help: A Day In The Life', com o objectivo de angariar dinheiro para as crianças afectadas pela guerra da Bósnia.

Keane EMAs

Early Winter

You, you know how to get me so low
My heart had a crash when we spoke
I can’t fix what you broke
And you, you always have a reason
Again and again this feelin
Why do I give in

And I always was, always was one for cryin
I always was one for tears

[Chorus]
The sun’s getting cold, it’s snowin
Looks like an early winter for us
Looks like an early winter for us
An early winter, oh I need you to turn me over

It's sad the map of the world is on you
The moon gravitates around you
The seasons escape you

And I always was, always was one for cryin
I always was one for tears
No I never was, never was one for lyin
You lied to me all of these years

[Chorus]

Why, why do you act so stupid
Why, you know that I’m always right

Looks like an early winter for us
It hurts and I can’t remember sunlight
An early winter for us
The leaves are changing color for us
and it gets too much
yeah it gets so much
Starting over and over and over again
it looks like an early winter for us

Put It Behind You
Nothing In My Way
Bend And Break
We Might As Well Be Strangers

Everybody's Changing
Leaving So Soon?
Hamburg Song
Can't Stop Now
Somewhere Only We Know
Try Again
This Is The Last Time
Is It Any Wonder?
A Bad Dream

Keane & Blitz

KEANE no Quarto Escuro

Under the Iron Sea foi gravado nesta base.

Under Pressure

The band's cover will be premiered on Jo Whiley's show on Tuesday September 25th, with the compilation album released the following Monday, October 1st

KEANE 'UNDER PRESSURE' FOR RADIO 1
22.08.07 | 12.37.pm
Tim tells us about the band's special cover version

To celebrate its 40th birthday, BBC Radio 1 are releasing a compilation featuring forty contemporary artists each covering a track from between 1967 and 2006. Keane were given 1981 and chose to cover 'Under Pressure' by Queen and David Bowie, a Number One hit in November of that year. The band's cover will be premiered on Jo Whiley's show on Tuesday September 25th, with the compilation album released the following Monday, October 1st. We called up Tim to get the lowdown on the track.

Hi Tim. How did you come to cover 'Under Pressure'?
After Radio 1 gave us 1981, we basically compiled a huge list of songs from that year. We had all the weekly Top 10s, plus a fascinating list of what the overall best sellers from the year were. Two were by Shakin Stevens, two were by Adam and the Ants and then there were novelty tracks like 'The Birdie Song' by the Tweets and 'Shaddup You Face' by Joe Dolce.

Not a particularly rich saem to chose from then?
Well, there were some pretty shocking songs, but there were some great tracks that year too. John Lennon's 'Imagine' was one of the biggest sellers, because he died at the end of 1980, and 'Woman' was in there too. Actually, Richard says that his first memory was hearing that this guy called John Lennon had been shot. Then there were big songs from bands like the Police, Blondie, XTC and Ultravox. Plus, of course, an awful lot of shit that we'd never heard of.

But eventually you plumped for Queen.
Yeah. We're all big Queen fans and spent a lot of our childhoods listening to them. I remember Tom used to do impressions of Freddie Mercury. In fact, Tom's the biggest Queen fan in the band and when we were told we had 1981, he suggested 'Under Pressure' pretty much immediately. So then we spent ages looking at the list of tracks, weighing up the options and eventually came back to that one. It was just the one that we were most desperate to get our teeth into. And once we started playing it, we really started to realise what an amazing song it is. I think you get a very different appreciation of a song when you play it than when you listen to it.

The original track featured two vocalists - Freddie Mercury and David Bowie. How did you deal with that on the cover?
The original idea was actually to get someone else in to do Bowie's part. But then when we were in North America in May, we started recording it. We did two sessions, in Toronto and Philadelphia, and we ended up with all three of us singing on it. We were huddled around a microphone, doing the handclaps and finger clicks too. We had so much fun with it. And when we finished, we realised we were happy with it like that, with just our vocals on it.

Should we be able to hear all three of you distinctly?
I certainly can. But then we also went for like a massed backing vocal effect too. The end result sounds really big.

Does Tom sound like Freddie?
Actually, he does a really good impression of him and we kept having to tell him to tone it down and sing like himself! He's such a huge Queen fan, it really was a dream assignment for him.

So are you pleased with the finished cover?
Yeah, really pleased. We reocrded it very quickly, but we had loads of fun doing it. It was a real collaboration between the three of us and there was so much energy and excitement in the studio. To be honest, I think it rhas eally inspired us for future recordings. And I think the song's turned out great. I'm really quite proud of it.

Call me what you like

Call Me What You Like" was the first single and the first release ever by English piano rock (then alternative) band Keane. Limited to 500 copies, the single was released through Zoomorphic, the band's own label set up to release their music when a record deal was not forthcoming. It was primarily sold in pub venues during early Keane gigs. A re-recording of the song was included as a b-side on their follow-up single, "Wolf at the Door.

Keane Bands earliest known recorded concert from December 17, 1999. The band still has an electric guitar, Tom on the guitar and Tim on the bass. Keane, for the first recording ever steps on stage at the famous Bull and Gate in stylish Kentishtown London with OnlineTV.com broadcasting live on its MusicTV.com web site.

"Call Me What You Like" and the first ever performance of "More Matey" are the two songs on this video.

Everybody's Changing

Where do you see yourselves in a year's time? I ask. "It's tricky" says Tom, "it depends on how well the new single impacts on people, we're also doing our own 8 track stuff to back it up, hopefully settling down to record an album then a tour, long term plans are to produce really great albums, but in a year even just being another step closer to being a really good band. I think that's what basically drives us, to be interesting and get our music out to as many people as possible and inspire them. We have confidence in ourselves and in less than a year's time we should be able to convince people that we can do great stuff and people will know we can do it." Tim laments the fact that "Every day we spend sitting in our jobs we wish we could be doing our music, you only have one life and it's a shame to do a mundane boring job." Prompting Tom to reply "But you have to make sacrifices because you know that it will pay off eventually. It probably wont be as rosy as it looks but it least it will be rewarding."
