Keane record new track for War Child
Keane have recorded a brand new single in support of conflict-zone charity War Child - and you can listen to it right now, weeks ahead of its official release on 29 October.
While not an explicitly political song, The Night Sky nonetheless strikes a suitably redemptive note of hope and fortitude, with Chaplin’s stirring lyrics (“We’ll release this town from all the people who try to knock it down”) underwired by chilly, echoing keyboard stabs.
The single is part of Keane’s wider commitment to support War Child’s work in Iraq providing aid to children affected by the war. On 1 November the band will play a special fund-raising gig at London’s Brixton Academy. Also on the bill, which has been assembled by the band themselves, will be The Magic Numbers, Pet Shop Boys, Lily Allen, Guillemots, Brendan Benson and Teddy Thompson, with more special guests to be announced. You can buy tickets here.
The Brixton gig is preceded by five nights of smaller warm-up shows in North London, showcasing up-and-coming bands. Keane also play a headline gig at Manchester Apollo on 31 October.
Some key facts:
*One child in Iraq dies every 5 minutes because of the war.
*An estimated 1.5million children have been displaced in Southern Iraq, many of whom are denied access to basic health, education, shelter, water and sanitation.
*Nearly 50% of the children in southern Iraq do not go to school.
