"Closer Now":Tom Chaplin allows the use of his lyrics

Tom Chaplin autorizou Annie Lennox a mudar o título da música "Closer Now" para "Pattern of My Life".

Closer Now Lyrics
Artist(Band):Keane

I like to wake alone
To lie and turn to stone
Comfort me, come to me
I won't go on
I like to walk along
To keep my head screwed on
Well I'm the best, so well done me
I won't go on

Believing, believing
I believe
You might turn from your love, wait around

If I go then I'm alone
If I stay then it will mean
Waiting on my own
It's the pattern of my life
When you care and you cannot feel
And you know that it's for real
So you leave me on my own
To live the pattern of my life

Make time to be
All this and more for me
Well you're the best so well done you
I won't go on

Believing, believing
I believe
You might turn from your love, wait around

If I go then I'm alone
If I stay then it will mean
Waiting on my own
It's the pattern of my life
When you care and you cannot feel
When you know that it's for real
So you leave me on my own
To live the pattern of my life

I believe
You might stumble and come closer now

If I go then I'm alone
If I stay here it will mean
Waiting on my own
It's the pattern of my life
When you care and you cannot feel
When you know that it's for real
You just leave me on my own
To live the pattern of my life

Woah...
You might stumble and come closer now

Spiralling

Ooo!
Ooo!

I'm waiting for my moment to come
I'm waiting for the movie to begin
I'm waiting for a revelation
I'm waiting for someone to count me in

Cos now I only see my dreams, in everything I touch
Feel their cold hands on, everything that I love
Cold like some, magnificant skyline
Out of my reach, but always in my eyeline now

We're tumbling down
We're spiralling
Tied up to the ground
We're spiralling

I fashioned you from jewels and stone
I made you in the image of myself
I gave you everything you wanted
So you would never know anything else

But everytime I reach for you, you slip through my fingers
Into cold sunlight, laughing at the things that
I had planned, the map of my world gets
Smaller as I sit here, pulling at the loose threads now

We're tumbling down
We're spiralling
Tied up to the ground
We're spiralling
When we fall in love
We're just falling
In love with ourselves
We're spiralling

Did you wanna be a winner?
Did you wanna be an icon?
Did you wanna be famous?
Did you wanna be the president?
Did you wanna start a war?
Did you wanna have a family?
Did you wanna be in love?
Did you wanna be in love?

I never saw the light
I never saw the light
I waited up all night
But I never saw the light

When we fall in love
We're just falling
In love with ourselves
We're spiralling
We're tumbling down
We're spiralling
Tied up to the ground
We're spiralling

Ooo!
Ooo!

Para quando o novo album Tim?

I don't think so! Definitely not finished. We've got another two and a half days of recording, and then we're going to LA to finish the mixing (which we've already started), so it's all a bit of a chaotic mish-mash. So yeah, it's all coming together!

Q: Have you enjoyed making this album?
Tom: http://www.keanemusic.com/data/mp3/2734_tom%20answer%208.mp3

I have enjoyed it hugely, actually! It was interesting, we had Jon Brion, who's an American producer/genius musician sort-of guru kinda bloke, and he came to Paris when we first started on the main part of recording.. and he said "Go and listen to those Bowie records and Beatles records that you love and just listen to the sense of fun that the people who made those records are having!" - and I think we thought "Well y'know... We've gotta make sure that translates onto this record". And it really has I think... there's a lot of fun stuff - I mean, y'know its not a joke record, its not a kind of parody or anything of Keane... its a very serious and thoughtful record, I guess, but at the same time the sound of it, sonically, its a lot more fun and I think the reason is because we were having a lot more fun.

We wanted to get involved in all kinds of crazy percussion and backing vocals and y'know, using instruments that we wouldn't have dreamed of using before... and I think y'know, part of that was just that we'd had a break, we feel so much closer as a unit now, we had such a good time touring in 2007 that it just... it just made us feel sort-of alive again as a band and so, y'know I just think... well, its ironic because I think we wanted to, with the second record we said that we wanted it to be a record that made us feel alive again after sort-of finding touring getting a bit kind of... well, touring became a bit of a drag, it became something that went on too long and that we weren't enjoying. But in the end, Under The Iron Sea just became a very dark and upsetting record - I mean, I personally think a very good record, but not a particularly pleasant experience to make. Y'know, I guess that happens in the life of a band, there are times and there are records that get made where those things happen - but this whole process has been completely different. We've been away to Berlin a couple of times, we've been away to Paris together, we've been up at our barn together and its that togetherness and that feeling that we're all kinda pulling in the same direction - and we're excited about making music again and doing it in a fun way. Its really infected this record with that sense of fun, and for me its been by far and away the most enjoyable record-making process I've had with Keane, and I think that probably could be said for the others as well.

Tom Chaplin: Question

Tom Chaplin

HOW DO YOU ACTUALLY RECORD YOUR VOCALS?

TOM: "Actually, it was interesting... the way we started doing them when we were in Paris and then when we were in Berlin, we were doing it on very expensive microphones and it was like, try not to whack that microphone or even touch it, 'cos it was like 60 years old and costs 20,000 quid or something. And you're sort of in vocal booth thats separated from the control room, and it had a kind of... it just had a slightly impersonal feeling- and as anyone who's seen us live will know, I like to perform, I like to... I feel like the physical side of it is very important and I think that kind of thing does translate onto a record.

So, in the end what we decided to do was just get my old little vocal mic that I use on-stage, just plug it straight in the desk and stand in the control room and just sing it with the speakers turned up... which most producers and engineers would start crying at that point, because... well, to put it simply, it basically means that the stuff thats coming out of the speakers gets recorded back through the mic as well as your voice and so it creates a bit of a headache - but what it gives you is something much more important, on the positive side, which is it gave me the ability to be in the control room with Jake, who's engineering the record, and Tim and Richard and Jesse, and to actually perform to them and to make it a real performance each time. That kind of really buoyed me up and just added another dimension to what I was doing... and its a technique that y'know, people like Bono and Bjork and people like that have used in the past, and I thought "Well, if it works for them, then it should work for us!" and I think... I really truly believe that all these songs, and hopefully my vocals as well, have taken another big leap forward as a result."

New Keane album 'almost done'

New Keane album 'almost done'Monday, June 16 2008, 16:06 BST
By Simon Reynolds, Entertainment Reporter

Keane pianist Tim Rice-Oxley has revealed that the band have almost finished recording their third album.

In a posting on Keane's official website, he said the record will be "hypnotic and ethereal" and compared one unnamed track to Simon & Garfunkel.

"It's begging to burst into some kind of 'Only Living Boy in New York'-style [background vocal] extravaganza at the end," he said.

Rice-Oxley also revealed that a musical saw, which he first heard in the film Delicatessen, would feature prominently on the album.

"We've had brilliant musical saw players down to play, and it does sound utterly hypnotic and ethereal," he commented.

Q. Hi Tom. The band have been having a few weeks off from recording. Have you enjoyed the break?

Well its been a good break actually, I think, 'cos you get a little bit stir-crazy - we sort of went pretty hard at it for a few weeks after we got back from Berlin, just 'cos I think we got to that stage were we thought "Well, we're nearly there" y'know... itd be nice to sort of cross the finishing line in terms of getting everything sort of recorded. So yeah, a few weeks off is good I think, just to get some distance from the songs.

Keane to go glam?

Keane to go glam?
Trio consider Marlene Dietrich-inspired new look
May 12, 2008

Keane have joked they are going glam during sessions for their third album.
The band are currently recording in Berlin, and on his blog at Keanemusic.com keyboard player Tim Rice-Oxley has explained the group have been inspired to opt for a more sophisticated look when they finally finish.

"Our new policy for this session was to have old films projected onto the big screen in the control room, to inspire us as we worked," he wrote. "I brought in my collection of Marlene Dietrich classics and made everyone watch 'Blonde Venus' on a loop for two days. By the end of that we'd decided that sparkling lapels and foot-long cigarette holders had to be the look for the next tour."

The star added that the film inspired them while working on five songs, though eventually the choice of film on the projector proved a bit of a distraction.

He said: "It all worked wonderfully until we hit a wall of exhaustion on Saturday afternoon and found ourselves helplessly mesmerised by Ingrid Bergman in 'The Inn Of The Sixth Happiness'."

Rice-Oxley added that the band would now regroup, though he was feeling a bit frazzled by the sessions.

"Work continues tomorrow. Are we entering the final stretch or just getting started?" he asked. "My head is spinning and I have no idea."

Book: Keane Photos

hi there everyone. i just wanted to tell you all about a book of photos that i'm putting together with rob, our lighting designer. as many of you will know, we've both put plenty of photos up on keanemusic.com over the last couple of years, and a few people suggested we put out a book. we thought that was a great idea! it's a collection of pics that we've taken over the last two years of touring, and should be published sometime in the autumn. there's a website with some sample images here: www.rnrkeane.com

we're still working away at the barn, trying to tie up a few more songs ready for mixing. it's sounding very alive and energetic, like a band in a room having fun.
